Refrigerant appliances cannot go to a Wisconsin landfill, and NR 488 requires DNR-registered handlers and certified refrigerant recovery. Fixr puts refrigerator removal at $100 to $200.

Does Janesville have curbside bulk pickup?
The City of Janesville does not publish one. Bulky items go to the Sanitary Landfill, 525 Black Bridge Rd: 96 gallons or less free for residents, $12 per passenger vehicle, $46 per ton ($20 minimum) for trucks and trailers.
Is the Janesville landfill open to people from other towns?
Yes. It is open to the public. The free 96-gallon allowance and the tire drop-off are for Janesville residents only.
How does Beloit's bulk pickup work?
$20 per bulky item, $30 for a sofa or sleeper, $20 per appliance, prepaid and scheduled with public works at (608) 364-2929. Items out before noon the day before pickup can bring a $125 fee.
What does the Town of Union charge?
At its Refuse and Recycling Center (Saturdays 7am to 3pm, by appointment), a couch is $25, a sectional $50 and a mattress $10 to $20 by size, per fees effective July 1, 2026.

What is banned from landfills in Wisconsin?
Major appliances, lead-acid batteries, waste tires, yard waste, and covered electronics such as TVs, computers, monitors, printers and cell phones.
Where do TVs go in Janesville?
Not the landfill. The city lists Universal Recycling Technologies (2535 Beloit Ave) and Best Buy (2850 Deerfield Dr, up to two items per household per day).
Where do paint and chemicals go?
Rock County Clean Sweep, the annual household hazardous waste drop-off. Advance registration is required: 608-757-5588.
Is there a mattress recycler in Rock County?
